Default HB Helix 7 DI G2N and previous 688 shut off at start up of motor

Is it normal for the HB to shut off when you crank the motor on the boat? My 688DI use to occasionally, not every time. My new Helix 7 did, just plain shut off, had to press button to start it back up. Newer starter battery.

Is there a certain way I should be wiring my HB's? I have a big lead going to Starter battery and it is on a fuse block under my dash. Only other thing on it is radio and bluetooth heading sensor.

I am tempted to install my winter batteries from ice shanty power box under my dash on floor and have dedicated power to HB. I actually have 2 batteries I could use. 7 AH and 9AH. How long would they last, in hours?

    thanks

Had same problem happen on my old 997, on start up. Even tho battery checked good(?) changed battery out and problem went away first time & every time. Try using batteries u have from ice fishing, my 997 ran for 6 hrs on a small ice fishing style battery.

Sounds like you should run some heavier gauge wire (#12) directly to your battery - I have seen this plenty ...

What exact battery and outboard, and do you charge the battery between trips?
