Default HB 898c SI, HB 899ci-HD-SI questions.

    Hello All,

I'm a little behind the times. However I have been using an 899 and Piranha Max set up on my boat. This year I am retiring the PMAx220 and replacing it with an 898c SI (not HD). I also picked up the interlink set to join the two units.

The 898 comes with the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T which is also compatible with the 899.
The 899 comes with the XNT 9 SI 180 T. It is the compact side imaging transducer. Is it compatible with the 898?

My plan is to mount he 898 on the bow with the XNT 9 SI 180 T and GPS puck. Mount the 899 at the counsel and connect the XHS 9 HDSI 180 T it, transom mount the XHS. Then interlink both units and connect the GPS puck to the interlink.

the main question I have is will the XNT 9 SI 180 T work with the 898. I am not worried about SI on the 898. Besides, if I understand interlink correctly I can still pull SI from the transom to the 898 bow mounted unit.

    Thoughts?

All you will need is a AS EC QDE this end fits the HB 899

    `
AS EC 15E this cable is the cable that hooks to the AS EC QDE cable and the other end screws STRAIGHT to the back of the HB898 now this cable is 15 foot but they also have other lenght cables I just picked the 15 foot to show you.

I don't think you will even need the interlink unless you are going to link up to your trolling motor also.

Thanks. The interlink came with the sonar/TM. Not linking the trolling motor, only has I-Pilot (no Link). I am going to link the GPS to the interlink so I can use it on the 899 too.

The XNT 9 SI 180 T will work on the 898 ... but the 800kHz frequency choice in the Imaging Frequency menu will not give very good results - so use 455kHz Imaging Frequency ...

    Thanks Rickie. 455 check.

    Interlink, not Ethernet.
I'm trying to work through the connections on the interlink and may need to get an extension cable.

The older Interlink technology will only transfer Waypoints ... There is no Sonar sharing with Interlink ...

Here is some Interlink info ...

Thanks for the links. Would it be better to Ethernet link the units?

Absolutely Ethernet is more versatile than Interlink ...

You would be able to share Waypoints, Accessories, and all Sonar between 898 and 899 ...

Like scrat mentions, you would need the AS EC QDE adapter cable for 899 and an Ethernet cable long enough to reach both units ...

The Ethernet cable will connect direct to 898 without an adapter ...

Interlink was a buggy technology ...

Great. I also have an external GPS puck. I don't think the 898 has internal GPS and needs the puck. Does it matter which unit I attach the external puck too? I want to be able to use it from both sonar units.
