Default Lowrance HDS 7 Gen 2 Touch Question

I currently have a HDS 7 Gen 2 Touch on my boat with both transducers transom mounted. I have moved the sonar transducer to the trolling motor to be able to see what is up front instead of behind me. I noticed that I only get water depth when I have the sonar on the trolling motor in the water. Is there a fix for this or do I need to consider a second FF to mount just on the trolling motor for front view in the water. This on a stick steer boat and I like to see in front of me instead of several feet behind me. If in need to purchase another FF, what would be a good option ??

    Thanks

The skimmer 2d xducer must be in the water for the HDS to get depth (there is no option of obtaining depth from the LSS xducer) ...

*Option 1... You can add a 2d xducer on the transom (where the original 2d xducer was) and connect this transom mount 2d xducer to the control head when the TM is not in the water ...

*Option 2... You can add a unit to the bow xducer for front sonar (and still need an additional 2d xducer on the transom when using the rear control head) ...

*Option 3... You can add a 2d xducer on the transom (where the original 2d xducer was) and connect both front and rear 2d xducers to a SB-9BL Switch Box to select which 2d xducer to use ...

Lowrance SB-9BL Switch Box-SB-9BL Lowrance - Star Marine Depot

Caveat to Option 3... The SB-9BL is discontinued and hard to find ...

    Thanks Rickie.

Thinking about a second FF and transducer on TM. What, in your opinion, would be a good Unit for this ?? Just for sonar only. Side and down scan on transom thru the current HDS Unit.

    Thanks again.

Most Lowrance guys are very satisfied with another HDS touch on the bow with the HDI xducer (2d and DownScan) ...

Then put the original 2d skimmer back on the transom ...

Ethernet the 2 touch units together and you would have a lot of flexibility getting data from either end of the boat ...

What software version are you running?

If you are running 4.0 or higher open the structure page, hit the power button. You should have several options come up, one should be "edit overlay". Select "edit overlay" then "menu" from the top right hand of the screen. In the menu there will be "add", select it and the "choose data" window will appear. On the "choose data" window select "sonar", there will be several options there too, The "depth" box will already have a check if you have the depth showing on that page. There will be an option for "structure" or "structure depth", select it and save IIRC. You should now have a depth reading from you structure scan.

not trying to side track this thread but I'm having a bit of difficulty with this set up and hopefully it will be helpful to the thread. I have an hds 8 gen2 at my console with the 2d xducer and structure scan and I have an hds 7 touch in the front and have the two networked together, I added the hdi xducer to my trolling motor. When I'm looking at sonar it will read the hdi transducer but when I try and use it for downscan by choosing this unit instead of lss 2 the screen goes blank. I'm sure it's user error. Any help is appreciated.

You may need to go to settings and change which transducer it is set on. I got a 12 at the wheel and a 7 on the front with the HDI transducer on the trolling motor. I had to set the 7 to the HDI transducer.

Go into your settings under install and select the 83/200-455/800 transducer. The unit needs to know your using the HDI transducer.
