    Default Hook-7 vs HDS-7

Trying to decide between the two. Will be used for amateur spider rigging, rod n reel fishing, and setting crab nets and traps. Hook7 is half the cost. Are there any features of the HDS that are must haves to justify the extra cost?

I have both, both are good but I like the HDS better, mainly because of the side scan.

Hook is a basic stand alone unit with 2d GPS or 2d/DI GPS ... no SideScan ...

HDS can do 2d/DI/SI GPS ... Ethernet to multiple units and/or Sonar modules, weather modules, music modules ...

HDS can WiFi to tablet or phone ... Connect cameras, radar, external GPS antennas ...

HDS (and Elite ti) are touch ...

the Hook series will be good enough for the average angler, it has a bunch of nice features down imaging works nice once you figure out how to set it up correctly. the HDS on the other is miles from the hook series, the HDS has it all NEMA 2000 for hooking up multiple units, wifi to a tablet, motor interface, structure scan. if your basing you decision on just GPS, and depth. there is no since in paying the amount for the HDS unit. IMO i like the lowrance cause i have cards that i make that work as aerial overlays for the GPS, but if i had to pick a unit for just scanning humminbird would be my choice they are leading the pack with structure scan at this point in time with the new mega hertz frequency they are able to push out.

The Hook series are the lower end of the Lowrance then you got the Elite Ti and the HDS. So to compare a HDS to a Hook is not fair.

The Gen-2 Touch is discountinued. The Elite Ti is the replacement and the main difference between a HDS & an Ti is the ethernet; the Ti doesn't offer ethernet but you got NMEA2000.
The Gen-2 doesn't have CHIRP and WIFI. With the Elite Ti with the Totalscan transducer you are getting: side and downscan, 2D and CHIRP and don't forget it's a touchscreen. So intuitive it make the adjustements so easy. Another you should consider; let say that you are looking on buying a electric motor; with the Ti you can link the tm and be able to control the tm from you're Ti screen!!
