Default My Gen3 Side Scan image shades too dark to read- HELP!

I have a Lowrance Gen 3 that works really well except in Side Scan mode. I can see structure near the boat but as the image extends out it quickly darkens to the extent that I get about a 10' view then nothing but heavy shade. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

    455kHz will be brighter than 800kHz ...

Did you try both ... ??

Sideview should be set 2x or 3x water depth per manual and I know these settings work.

Both sides and I usually have it set at 80-100' in 20-30 fow. Water depth usually set at 30'.i have tried both kHz. Weird that I'm the only guy experiencing this. I'll bet it's some simple operator error. Won't be the first time! Thanks.

have you checked to make sure you selected the correct transducer during initial setup? missing that causes a lottt of operator errors

In 20 fow the si range should be set to no more than 60 ft in order to fill the whole screen with readable detail all the way to the edge of the screen

That's good to know Ljones. Thanks. I am thinking this may be a zoom issue . On my way to the lake to investigate this theory a wheel came off my trailer so I never made it there but I should be able to check it out this week.
