I have not used the MG products but I suspect they are neck in neck as most top dogs in competition are. I had to roll the dice going from my old Terrova to my new Ulterra because I have several thousand in HB electronics that are all networked to my trolling motor and I was not about to ditch that and go with another brand. I'm sure they are both great with their newer models, but for anyone in my situation where they have far more invested than just the trolling motor, the new MK models have fantastic spot lock. I wish they would become more universal on hooking up to but I know with MK and Humminbird being the same company, they never will...

Purchased a 2017 Lowe had a Minn Kota terrova installed it has the external GPS. Spot lock keeps shutting off. The unit seems to be very erratic when it is trying to return to the spot almost to the point if you were to be bent over by the edge you could be thrown overboard when it kicks in a 10 mph to reposition at the locked location. I am hoping the latest software update will solve the problem.

You can actually adjust the speed to which the tm tried to return to a spot lock position. I have an ulterra with the new and improved spot lock and there is absolutely nothing I can say wrong about it.

I have read that in previous post I have checked my manual and can find nothing explaining how or if you can adjust the speed. I have also had several issues with the spot lock just shutting off like it has lost the Bluetooth signal. Not only from the remote but when using the foot control. And help would be appropriated.

    Thank you

I would think adjusting the boat scale would be the same for the Terrova as my Ulterra. Using the remote start at the home page, then select system. Scroll down and you should see the Boat Scale option. Mine has the range options of +2 to -2. I keep mine set on -2 which greatly improved the spotlight and jog features. I believe you need to have the remote and motor connected or it won’t save.

For the issue with it turning off, not sure so will leave that for the experts. If you didn’t calibrate the heading sensor it may cause confusion for the motor trying to maintain a location. Just a thought to troubleshoot.

Boat scale can help if you have that option on the Terrova especially with a lighter boat. Maybe someone with the new Terrova can help with the spot-lock issue but with the Ultrex any foot pedal movement will disengage the SpotLock.

At some point in time there has to be an "end of life" on a product. Sucks to be the guy that purchased one close to that "end of life". I also have a new Ulterra (less than a year old). I didn't buy it for the spot lock. If that is what I was looking for, I wouldn't have purchased a Minn Kota based on the powerdrive V2 and Terrova I already have.

Purchasing something in the hopes that someday they fix the problem and offer me a solution would not be a sound practice on my part. Some things are upgradable and some are not. Just like with computers, eventually a company stops supporting a particular brand of software because, if they didn't, people would never switch to the newer versions. Does it suck to be the guy that purchased the last of a dying breed end of life unit? Yes, but at some point in time they have to sun down one program to start another.

If changes are not made on products, you would still be driving that awesome Ford Pinto wagon that came out in 1976!

I disagree, my wife's first car before we were married was a Ford Pinto 4 door, real piece of crap had to replace just about everything on that car except the gas tank. finally got smart and traded it in on a VW bug.A great car that bug was.
