Default Suggestions and help for fish/depth finder for Jon Boat

I am trying to finish out my 14' Jon boat that I'm building like I want it. Soon I will be purchasing a fish finder for it but I'm not sure on which one I should get. I'm not looking into spending a lot of money on one and I know you only get what you pay for. The one I have in mind is the Lowrance Hooks 3X DSI. I thought maybe this would be a good choice for giving me depth and showing structure. The way my boat is designed, I will be mounting the transducer on the front trolling motor. Reason is, the rear bench goes to the far back of the boat. Anyone that knows, can this transducer be mounted this way? And if anyone has any other recommendations on a unit in that price range (0-$200) I would greatly appreciate them. Also, any mounting suggestions or tips would also be very helpful. If $200 is your budget, I would recommend either the Lowrance Hook 4X HDI / 000-12641-001 or the Garmin Striker 4 DV / 010-01551-00. Both have Sonar/Down vu or down scan (Lowrance) and the Garmin also has a built in GPS with a basic map you can mark waypoints on. You can get a trolling motor kit for the Lowrance for around $19.95 and the Garmin ships with a trolling motor bracket. Either one of these units would do a nice job for you at that price point.

Any unit with any GPS function has an advantage over a unit without GPS ...

Being able to mark (and return to) known fishy structure makes one's fishing time on the water more effective ...

The Striker Brian mentions doesn't show contour lines, nor can a map card be added ...but the GPS can be used to mark Waypoints on the unit blank map background and return to them (similar to the entry level handheld GPS devices) ...

Regardless of which unit you choose, you chose a great guy to do business with. Brian is top notch and a popular dealer here on CDC.
Good luck, looking forward to pictures of your catches.
