Default Internal helix vs external puck GPS

I have an AS GS 50 gps puck from one of my old 2d units. I am wondering how it compares to the internal GPS in a helix 9. If it is the same or better I am gonna mount it on the transom so it is right over my transducer. The ducer and the unit are only about 4 feet apart but I already own the thing so why not?

Also, am I correct that only onix can share heading only over Ethernet? So when my heading sensor comes in I can select it over the network but must also use its location as well?

    Thanks fellas.

The accuracy of the external vs internal is about the same ...(in itself) ...

The benefit with the external is being able to coincide it with the xducer ... making the GPS data and the Sonar data closer to the same POI (point of interest) ...

Only ONIX can share heading data and GPS data separately ...

Core units share both ...or none ...

Cool, thanks for the help as usual.

I have my transducer wire coiled in the same area that I was planning on storing the coiled excess wire from the GPS puck. Is there likely to be any interference or cross talk between the two? I expect the GPS is low voltage and not likely to be upset but if it is likely to be an issue I can coil it in plain sight near my unit. If there was some interference would the gps location be moving around when sitting still?

(To my knowledge) GPS doesn't create frequency waves (EFI nor RFI) that could encroach into xducer cabling ...
    -----

Your boat icon is moving around (while sitting still) because the EPE (Estimated Position Error) is 5-15ft ...and the boat is not moving far enough between GPS data samples (every 1/4 second) to conclusively determine that the boat is actually moving ...

So when the GPS antenna finally receives a data sample (or consecutive data samples) that has moved far enough to conclusively determine that the boat has moved - the unit moves the boat icon to the new conclusive determined position (on the Chart ) ...
