Think I would look at the Garmin I think it is the Etrex. Inexpensive and do a pretty good job.
Im trying to find a very afordable hand held gps unit that will let me input the listed locations where the crappie condos are located.it has to be hand held because I only have a small boat. what are you folks using and the cost of your units. it would help me very much. I have been looking at the listed locations and copying to google earth and to shows where there at. But i need something when i get on the lake to show me where to go. I dont use a smart phone so a gps app is out. thank you so much...

will the garmin etrex 10 allow you to input cord, and take you over a lake, or is it land based only I will check that out the 10 is about 95.00 not a bad cost..thanks
The 10 will work...if you have sonar you will be fine..I use an etrex venture...have owned several units..I feel Garmin is the most user friendly
was looking at how accurate the Garmin etrex-10 is and it shows it could be off by at least 5 meters,if im trying to find a crappie condo,is this going to be a problem. If im wanting to find a set of courdenates on a lake how close should I get, before i need to use my humminbird pro 128 tracker, thinking it will show up on it. Is this the way I should do this. thanks
bought the Garmin Etrex-10, wife and my two granddaughters, and I have been learning to use this by doing some geocaching with it did not know there there were so many locations all over the state. found a map that has a lot of listings of the coordinates, then we wright them down, input them in the etrex-10 and go find them A lot of fun and we get out of the house with the family.Im learning how to use this thing while having fun doing it, Been putting the coordinates for the locations of the crappie condos for lake conway in google earth, and saving them cause there is a way of loading them on my garmin etrex-10 dont know that just yet, but will find that out and go from there. the Garmin etrex 10 is pretty accreate so far. still learning, went out this afternoon with the family, and found all locations, but some of them did not find the item or object perhaps it was taken. but having fun any ways...thanks
Does any one have an easyier way of putting lake coord. into there garmin etrex. the way i do it is i get on here to the lake brush locations an right them down then click on google earth and copy the location long/latt loc. then save that as a kml file the convert that to a gpx file that my garmin uses. it seems like a long way around to do that. But google earth does tell me where its at and i can see on the map exactly the location. ill use the ruler function to measure how far out that crappie condo is from the bank. and where there located from the closes boat ramp. again any on doing this any easyer.Trying to find out how to convert a list of coord. into google earth to gpx.still working on that...thanks
I have 3 Garmin handheld GPS's, and one of them is an etrex 10. For marking brush and going back to them, that etrex 10 will do as well as any of them. It will get you within 15 ft, which is pretty good. No gps that isn't a professional survey type will do much better. The way I do it is I get as close as the GPS will get me and then start looking with the fish finder. You will know it when you see it.
As far as copying coordinates to the gps, I use a program called Easy GPS. Its a free download and it will copy coordinates from one device to another or convert a different file format to the one needed for the Garmin. Where are you getting the lake brush locations? I looked on this site a little and didn't see them.
Go to the State message board to Arkansas, click that state, then the first one thats called Moderated AR. fishing reports forum, in there are the lakes that have the brush covers listed, Also found out that you can go to the AGFC site then go to resources, click that go to maps click AFGC interactive maps,go to the lake of your choice, at the upper center right you will see a hammer click then choose gps/gpx communicator,go to gpx download then click the point selector to on, this allows you to choose which way points you need for any map that have fish cover locations. to choose the ones you want hold the left mouse button down and box the one you want in then release the button and it will save that file to gpx so you can enter it into your gps. Its easer to do than you think...........thanks hopes this helps, OH forgot the little fish are the locations where the fish covers are....
