    Default Humminbird 788

    On sonar, I'm getting a solid red verticle bar on the screen once in while. Never used to get it, and other than that it seems to work good. I know that is not a lot of info, but any idea what would cause that?

    I'm not sure gunner ...

    That almost sounds like a xducer possibly failing ...

    You can try a Restore Defaults ...

    Try to catch a pic of it ...even if it's a phone pic ...

    I found the problem today after going out on the lake and every time I ran the trolling motor, the 788 would go out, more when going left than right. Gave up fishing, at home I found where one of the ties holding the transducer cable to the shaft of the motor was too tight and pinched/broke some of the internal wires. I could hold the cable straight, everything worked good, bend it at that pinch point, it goes wacky.

    fix;
    1. buy a new transduce
    2. upgrade to a helix

    This is not the 1st time I've heard of a zip tie damaging a xducer cable ... ...

    trying to decide between 10 di, or 12 di. Up in the bow, really don't need a 12, thought it would be nice. Question, is the chirp and the larger screen worth it. Still thinking and looking for good prices.

    Larger screen is always worth it ...

    CHIRP maybe so - maybe not ...dependent on if you need to separate fish echoes from structure or the bottom in 2d images ...
