I couldn't figure mine out until I took my boat to the water and left my fishing poles at home. It took about 3 or 4 hours of playing with the settings and it all started making sense. When that happened, I wished I had my poles with me! Now I have 2 Humminbirds, 1 Lowrance and a XI5 trolling motor on my boat, and wouldn't go to the water with out any of them!!

    Bingo!

A few times I wasn't doing any good fishing and I spent some time playing with the electronics were a bigger help than anything else.

I run my units (saw it on CDC) at home more than I do on the water. Nothing can replace on the water experience but familiarizing yourself with menus and other features at home is will shorten the leaning curve drastically. I got an a/c adapter and an inline fuse for less than $20 at RadioShack and I hear the power cords for legacy units are reasonable now a days...

It takes time thats all. I have the ability to use my electronics a lot, sometimes 15 hours a week or more. Eventually you start to notice things that you didnt before. I can point to something on my screen and say its a fish but a buddy who doesnt use electronics has no idea of what im saying. Its like a language that takes some time to get fluent in. Im still nit fluent but night and day from where I started.

Imaging is quite a bit different than the traditional 2D sonars but after some time with it and learning to interpret the image you'll swear by it...LOL As others mentioned, looking at posted screenshots and videos, helped me a lot. I also have almost as many off-boat hours on the units as on the water...LOL
