    Default Humminbird customer service

Ok, I have a 597 trying to install on bow, ran ducer cable up motor shaft. Put everything back together. Hooked up power to power up front to check out. Bad interference when motor running. Removed ducer from motor and moved about 10 ft away, same thing. Pulled motor back apart removed cable and reassembled. Moved ducer and cable and finder to other side of boat, same thing. Got a section of shielded wire and ran from cranking battery to front down outside of boat, hooked up power wire, same thing. So I put my thinking cap on while staring at the back of my 998 which is mounted up front also ( stick steer ) removed connector and pulled out power wire ( which has the built in ferrite ) plugged to 597 and turned on motor no interference, put ducer back next to motor and still no interference. Called Humminbird, got the lady in tech help, explained what all I had done and she told me I had done everything I should and she is sending me a new power cord with the built in ferrite free of charge. May not ship until April 1'st but can't ask for any better service than that. I put the whole story in with the hope that my time spent might just help someone else out and shorten their trouble shooting in the future.

Your troubleshooting steps are classic to the way interference should be tracked down ...

Step 1. Verify if the interference is intruding in thru xducer or its cable by separating them from the TM and test ... Your results of continued interference concluded that the xducer and/or its cable were not culpable ...

Step 2. Verify if the interference is intruding in thru the power circuit by testing possible fixes in the power circuit ... Your results of eliminated interference concluded that a ferrite in the power wire arrested your interference ...

    Great job cray ...

Cray that is why I have been using there units for more years than I care to tell. Just 10 days ago, I found a SD card at one of the ramps at Pickwick lake. Figured who ever lost it would love to have it back. Put it in my laptop and found his junk files. In those screen shots found his Onix 10 S/N. Got in touch with humminbird. And a few days later the guy got in touch with me. He is happy to be getting the card back, as He told me it has months of data on it. And he did not have backups.
Other company's may have went through the hassle of looking up someones unit. And getting my info to this person. But then again they may have looked at it as he lost the card. Its not there issue.
Ordering a new Helix 10 SI today. And now to figure out how to make my own maps and stuff with it.I'm sure will have to buy the SD card to do the maps. But then again I may not? I bought the first model SI unit so this one should be way better then it is.
Hope to see you 2 weeks.

That is a good story Pete. There customer service is why I changed over after reading about it on here. I had my rounds with the other company for over 20 years with 4 different units and not one time did I go away happy with the results. # 1 I have up until this deal have not had a issue with Bird units. I have called them a few times just with questions and each time the person I talked with seemed happy to be helping me and were not rushed in any way to get me off the phone. The other guys were like angry that someone dared call them with a problem.
Sure hope I get to see you soon and everything works out good for you. Praying for you buddy.
