    I have the Elite 5DSI (no 2d/chirp) ... and it's a fine unit. I would expect the E5x to be a good unit, especially for those whom still prefer to use 2d sonar. Chirp just makes the 2d image a little clearer. The DI screen on the E5x should be just as good as the one on my E5DSI, since it's basically the same unit (minus GPS & 2d added).

    If I wanted a DI/2d capable unit, for around $200, I think I'd certainly consider that unit. (especially knowing now what I know about the DI images it is capable of)

    Thanks CrappiePappy, I have a handheld Garmin Etrex Vista which is why I didn't purchase the Elite 5 Chirp. Can't wait to try it out
    this Spring. Actually, it is easier to identify the fish on the traditional sonar screen than on the DS screen when in the simulation mode.
    Guess we'll see soon.
