    Default Exchanging Lowrance HDS units

I currently have 2 Lowrance HDS 5 units with the separate Structure Scan module on my boat. I want to exchange the console unit with a new HDS 9, which has Structure Scan built into the unit. My question is, can I just unplug my HDS 5 unit and plug in my HDS 9 unit?

I thought you didn't have to have the module just the transducer?

The Touch built in sounder is a different animal than the module ...(even tho they both do the same thing) ...

And the LSS 1 module is a different animal than the LSS 2 ...(even tho they all do the same thing) ...

Some say the modules gives better imaging than the built in sounder ...

Some say LSS 1 gives better DownScan ...while the LSS 2 gives better SideScan ...

The built in sounder is convenient ... but not necessarily better at imaging ...

So if I bought a touch I can connect it to the module with no problem?

Same here. I can't visually tell the difference between any of the arrangements. But, I got old eyes.

thanks guys. I'm waiting for an new ram mount to accomodate the larger unit. The larger bracket came with the new unit. I am very anxious to try it.
