Setting the xx9 units to 10hz gps refresh should be pretty good at stopping the donut right?

My opinion is that the manufacturers have led us to believe (or maybe allowed us believe without rebuttal) that 10Hz GPS refresh rate (10 times/second) somehow makes a more valuable product than a 5Hz GPS refresh rate (5 times/second) ...

    This seems contradictory when ...:
    1. The display screen refresh rate has not been also upgraded past 1 screen refresh/second ...
    2. The EPE (Estimated Position Error) is "governmentally" degraded (on purpose) to "+\-" 10-15ft per GPS data sample ...

Here is an interesting (and lengthy) discussion ...

GPS Receiver Position Solution Rate - Moderated Discussion Areas

I will offer this analogy from that discussion ...:

In a boat that is moving at 6.82-MPH, or 10-feet-per-second, a GPS receiver that computes a position solution ten times per second (or 10-Hz) will be computing a solution for every one foot of motion of the boat. So we have a position solution that is computed in one-foot increments but is only accurate to about plus-or-minus 10 to 15-feet.

I highly doubt the higher 10Hz GPS refresh rate would have any effect on the donut when using any of the optional GPS antennas (excluding the AS GPS HS antenna that uses the internal magnetic compass to eliminate the donut) ...

I must make a note to test this on my ONIX just to see if there is any difference noticeable at all with the 2 settings (my 1197 does not have the option with 6.310 software) ...

I was thinking that it would not. Do both of your units not have side image/DI? How do the images compare? I got lots of questions? lol
Rickie (rnvinc) can answer most questions since he set my whole system up. I have a da ducer apparatus for my Di transducer for the Helix 10 and the SI transducer on the transom for the 1199 SI/DI. I longline and pull cranks 95% of the time so I use a Terrova101 with I-Pilot. The 2D transducer on my Terrova is not used since it is strictly 2D. I run split screen on my 1199 when pulling cranks--1/2 2D and 1/2 GPS map. I don't use my front unit (Helix10) unless I'm longlining or have a boat full of guests then it will be split screen DI/GPS.

When pulling cranks, I sit facing the back of the boat with my 1199 facing the bow.
