I was referring to slow trolling speeds like .1-.6 or so, when SR'g, etc., not when stationary.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

All HB GPS model units display the donut when the GPS speed is less than 0.6mph ...

This is simply because (at slow speeds) the boat has not moved a distance greater than the EPE (Estimated Position Error calculated by the GPS function) from the previous GPS data sample to the present GPS data sample ...

The unit is basically saying ... "I'm not sure you have moved far enough to be certain that you have actually moved ... So I'm gonna display a circle until I get a GPS data sample that confirms you have actually moved" ...

The only downside to the 1199 is that it will stop getting new updates before the HELIX ...

And the Helix will continue to be upgraded and support new accessories / features at least a couple of years after the 1199 no longer gets updates.

Rickie and I both have an 1197 that hasn't gotten any updates beyond the point where Humminbird broke the 2D.....and will not support accessories like the 360 even though it is Ethernet capable.

I bought both a 1199 and Helix 10 for my new Excel. I wanted the side image for the console and DI for the bow. I'll let Rickie worry about the updates for both of them.

I bought both my units from Brian at BBG Marine.

Thanks Rickie. I figured you would know. The external antenna does not do away with the donut either does it. It just shows a pointer indicating last direction detected correct?

If you get a Heading Sensor external GPS, it eliminates the donut.......The direction the boat is pointed will be displayed even sitting dead still.

    mrdux,
You mind telling me how you have it set up? I know you like to pull jigs and cranks so I assume you have an ipilot. Will the transducer on the ipilot work with DI or did you have to add one? I was thinking that it would not. Do both of your units not have side image/DI? How do the images compare? I got lots of questions? lol

I would go Helix just for the AutoChart Live feature. Lots of unmapped lakes around me and lets you enhance lakes on your map cards.

I forgot about Autochart Live .... That is already 2 features the core units don't have ....The other is the improved data box management.
