Default HB Waypoint Management between networked units

My setup is an 859 HD DI on the bow, connected to the Terrova US2 and an 1198 with HDSI at the console, networked directly to each other. I am not running the iPilot Link or any other accessories at the moment.

The network is running fine, got the units named and have enabled Waypoint Sharing.

    The question:

If I hit mark on either unit, where will it save. Which unit do I keep my SD card in that I save all my waypoints on and how do I keep this process of waypoint management clean?

    Thanks!!

Waypoints are written directly into the internal memory of the unit that created the waypoint ...

Ethernet allows each unit to "read" waypoints in each other's memory ...and display those waypoints in a different color (green) ...

Waypoints reside in the unit memory until you manually command them to Export (to a SD Card) from the waypoint management menu under the Nav tab ...

You can Export the waypoints to a SD Card and manually import them into the other unit if you want to see all your waypoints on one unit while the other unit is powered off ...

The "Cleanest" may be to keep waypoints on the unit that created them, Export occasionally to a SD Card, and run them thru HBPC to create a hard copy backup ...

You just need to have both units powered on so that each unit can "read" each other's waypoints during fishing ...

So as long as they're networked I can mark with either. Can I export all from 1 unit or will I have to do them separately and organize on my pc?

The waypoints will have to be Exported separately from each unit's internal memory and then organized in HBPC ...

Separately ..... I typed too long and Rickie beat me .......They are only "saved" to the unit you marked them on until you export them...... You can bring them both into HB PC and combine them .....Then either save the combined waypoints back to each unit or pick one unit as a master and keep the waypoints in it.....Some like to organize waypoints by lake or area so there aren't as many waypoints in the unit.
You can have the waypoints for each lake on it's own SD card, and then ..... when you are totally sure you have good HB PC backups ..... delete all the nav data from your unit and just load the ones for the lake you are fishing.
The units run better with fewer waypoints because the waypoints are taking up internal memory and also the unit may be scanning the waypoints to determine which ones are in proximity to your position....More waypoints = more overhead the unit has to do......You want it to be spending more time scanning your sonar and imaging.

I like having things backed up in multiple places.

That was what I figured but wanted to confirm. A bit of a headache, but doable. Just have to be careful not to overwrite a master SD card and keep good backups on my PC. Thanks gentlemen.
