    Default on board charger

bought on on board charger for my boat, thougt i had more room than i do in the boat for it. i have a 17ft alum boat going to mount it in the area
with the batterys & fuel tank.Batterys are on the left side, fuel tank in middle. the compartment has a door, when its closed it still has a opening
8in, so its not seald off, i have to open the door to hook up chargers now, with door open it has about 16in opening. was thinking about mounting
charger on right side of compartment to a alum plate thats there. will charger get to hot to be in this area? i have already thought about mounting
a fan to blow air in while they charge. thanks for help

Do not mount your charger directly to the aluminum.......Mount it to a piece of ply wood or what I used was a heavy plastic cutting board that I bought at Walmart...I cut it the size I wanted and drilled and counter sunk some holes to bolt the charger to...then sealed over the counter sunk holes on back side with silicone...then mounted that to the aluminum. This way the charger is isolated from the boat and cannot set up a electrolisis and attack the aluminum boat.

My current boat and the last one had the on board chargers mounted directly to aluminum and have had no issues.

Hotdawg. I have mine mounted in a similar fashion.

Check out this thread I did last November: http://www.crappie.com/crappie/michi...-boat-project/

My cord extends outside of the door to this battery hold when charging. I leave mine plugged in all the time and have never had it get hot. Mine had a vinyl gasket to mount between the charger and the boat's aluminum.
Not sure if it makes any difference but my unit is a ProMariner. They actually make most of the ones sold under the Cabela's and BP banner. Can't speak to whether yours will get hot or not but mine doesn't.
