Default HDS Gen2 Touch units compatibility with XI5 trolling motor

Just inherited a nice showroom quality 1998 Stratos 283VR that was my Father in Law's and decided to upgrade the electronics on it. To make a long story shorter, I had a HDS 9 with LSS2 installed for the console and a HDS7 (both touch models) with HDMI transducer installed on the trolling motor since I really wanted Downscan capabilities up front. I did this with the intention of installing a XI5 trolling motor soon with Gateway connections, etc. I've now been told that the XI5 won't work with the HDMI transducer; that my only option for it is to install the SonarHub and Spotlight Scan, which is something I'm really not interested in. I guess my question is why won't the XI5 work with the HDMI skimmer transducer? Surely Lowrance can figure out a way to give us Downscan up front with the XI5 without using the LSS2 transducer on the transom through networking? Thoughts? No need to post if y'all just want to beat on me for my decisions....this is what I want, just trying to figure out how to get it since that's the way I fish.

Mount the HDI to the foot of the Xi5 ...

Your challenge will be what to do with the cable ...

    Here is an option ...

If u do the setup that rickie s showing u might want to add a small gage wire Run that wire inside the coiled air hose, along with the transducer wire. (Connect 1 end to skeg the other to negative side of unit wire).

What will the extra wire do for you again?
