Default Adding a timer to live well switch

My new boat did not have a timer on the live well pump. It was a easy install and adjustable timer bought on Amazon for little over 30 bucks shipped. Put a splice clamp on the ground wire going in original switch to ground on timer. Left power wire on original switch. Then hooked a wire to original power out put post to input on timer. Hooked wire from original out put to timer out put post. drilled a hole and postioned timer. Easy to do if a non mechanic like me had no problem. I can leave set or turn off at timer switch. when running down the lake or end of day original switch still works as a power shut off. Instructions calls for a fuse but my original switch is already fitted with a breaker and still goes through it.

Things needed tools - drill , pliers , knife
supplies , (3) female connecters , (1) wire slice clamp , electrical tape, (2) 6'' pieces of coated electrical wire

Nimrod I put one on my boat several years ago. I would not take nothing for it can set for continuous or comes on every 1 min. 3min. 5 min. 7 min. Helps keep my catch alive till I get ready to go home with them. I think I bought mine from BPS and it cost more than yours so you got a deal.

Mine has been been unfaltering since about 1998 (with only 1 fuse change in that time) ...

I need to do this too. I'm still stepping back and turning the pump on every once in awhile.

I never cut mine off, not at least until I'm ready to go to the house.

I'd swamp my boat if I did that

The pump will put water into the livewell much faster than the outlet hole will drain it off.
And yes, I've left the pump on in my previous boats & had water run into the floor from under the livewell lid ... even got my butt wet, once, when I sat down & took off to go to another spot, and the water came gushing out of the livewell as the bow of the boat lifted up on takeoff

My current boat has the open/close dial assembly that I could leave "open" & run the livewell pump ... but, it would likely run my battery down to where I couldn't start the big motor. May be a good excuse to get a timer installed !!

Mine has a good flow. I've never had it over fill. What I need is a recirculating pump so I can keep them alive when I take fresh water off of the fish

I've did the same thing, but the old on off switch I used to run a 12v dual stone bubbler in the livewell then ran legs off of the positive and negative to the new timer. The bubbler really helps in my tin boat.
