Default new to side imaging looking for help

I just got a new hb899 i got it all hooked up yesterday and went to the lake for a couple hours to check it out. I only had a short time but i circled some spots where i knew there was some brush but never saw anything on side imaging. I went through the si enhance settings pretty thoroughly still nothing. Are there people that knowledgeable about these things that would go on the water with you to show what they can do. Im in central illinois.

You'd be surprised to know that there probably is something there but you didn't see it. Try recording and using humviewer to make a file to view "offline" then see if you can see anything in your scans. Also try searching You Tube for videos on how to set your settings to see the most while you are on the water. I have an 899 and used the videos to set mine to my desired settings. You would have to play with them to see how you like them.

What is the SI range set at? If it's something you know is there I would start about 50ft per side.

Set things so everything will be in your favor. Go to a spot where you know exactly where the piece of cover is located. Set the SI to either right side, or left side only. If you are in 15' of water, try to stay about that far right or left (depending on which side you are using) and then scan at a speed around 1.5 mph. Don't use a split screen and as soon as you spot something put your cursor on it and zoom in some

Go out expecting to do ONLY scans with your sonar instead of expecting to fish and you will find you can set the unit to your liking. Once you have it set then you can go fish! Bonus!

One piece of info i missed at first is that side imaging will only read if you are traveling at least 3 mph or so. If you are sitting still it will not give you an accurate reading.
