    Default covering connectors

just curious as to what you guys that remove your FF do about the exposed power and transducer cords to shield them from water? I plan to remove my Helix when I am done fishing but am concerned with the connectors getting wet. Am I just paranoid or is there something you do?

Also on kinda the same note. Are the Humminbird unit covers waterproof?

If its going to be sitting for a long time I put a zip lock bag over them and then situate the bag so water can't drip in.

I usually tuck the connector up under/into the mount bracket when trailering or boat is stored. Boat has a trailerable cover over it when sitting at home, so water isn't an issue, then. I just keep an eye out for any sign of corrosion. If I weren't able to hide the connectors, then putting them in a zip lock bag would be my alternative option.
I thought about using dielectric grease to prevent corrosion and keep the connector prongs waterproof ... but, wasn't sure if the grease would not also collect dirt particles, which could cause problems down the road.

I don't know about the HB unit covers, but I wouldn't think they'd be "waterproof". They might be "water resistant" to a point, but without a sealing mechanism like a latch or screws ... then they're more "dust covers" than anything IMHO.

    ... cp

I'm a big fan of WD-40. My electronics only come in for the winter but I liberally spray the connectors with WD-40 then bag. Keeps them nice and pretty

I guess I'm a rebel...I leave my cords laying on deck exposed to sun and rain. Never had an issue but I guess maybe now I might cover them...I'll see if anyone has ever had an issue with leaving them out exposed.

True but that's why I situate them in an upright position with the opening at the bottom. It works unless the bag falls over.

I use vinyl cap plugs. I always remove my electronics while trailering and storing. My boat. Way to much money invested and money is hard to come by! Ask my wife. Lol !
