I believe you can use the transducer exchange program, just don't open the transducer packaging when you receive the unit.

What should I do if I need a transducer other than the transom mount included in the box of my Humminbird unit?

    jusanothajoe,
I haven’t seen any posts back from anyone who has used the larger HDSi transducer on a HELIX 5 SI-GPS unit yet, so I can only assume the result will be the same as we have seen from 398, 598, 698, 797 and 798 users who have done this – most agree that there is an increase in the definition of the Si and Di sonar. There are al some that cannot see the difference and this is due to the smaller display of these units.

You would use the Transducer Exchange Program that matzilla posted about. Be sure that the transducer and hardware have not been opened. You will have to check with the Humminbird Customer Service folks about cost as it may depend on which transducer you are exchanging for. 1-800-633-1468 If you call on Monday, I would do so at 8:01AM (central time zone) as this is their busiest day of the week.

Most units with a SI (which I own in the Humminbird 798cisi) incorporates also the DI function. Get the SI ... can't go wrong .. I'll will update this year to the new model i.e. 900 or 1100 series Humminbird.

I like the fact that Humminbird has regular sonar, Down image & side image at your finger tips to see all three or others of your choice. I love the side image but takes more time to get use to than other images. Wish I had put side image on my trolling motor instead of down image. Even a smaller unit would been better.
