Default Have a good laugh on me

I constantly read this forum. I purchased a Lowrance Elite 7 HDI in the spring of last year.

Am I an expert yet? Not by a long shot. I have read on this forum the problems guys have had with their units. I have had the same problems and some others. The majority of the time it was "PILOT ERROR". I could write a book about some of the dumb things I have done. My wife said I needed to take the grand childern. They would show me how to use this equipment. Guys complain about unit cutting out. Could be weak battery or bad connection. Very important that the fishing mode and proper transducer is keyed in. You can't get DI with a duel transducer keyed in. Screen will be black ,if the brightness is not turned up. Contrast has to be set to about 68 to get good DI.Transducer will not work out of water and will take time to locate bottom after trip up the pond. There are many things I could say about things that I thought was a unit error, only to find out IT WAS MY LACK OF EXPERIENCE. I am sure there are some problems that are unit related. Bottom Line. The unit is way smarter than me. I am just trying to pick up and learn what this depth finder is capable of doing.....Don't take it to serious and have fun learning........crappie1133

Well don't feel like the lone ranger...or the lone pilot. There are a few guys on here that are just magicians with this stuff, and then there are the rest of us

Crappie1133 .... now that your post is unscrambled :

My reply would be to just take a look at my thread on the Elite 5 DSI ... over 800 replies (83pgs worth) and nearly 270,000 views ... and I still don't think I know all there is to know about my unit's capability. So, yeah ... no expert here, either !!

But, like the intent of your post, I too hope mine has helped others through the learning curve and on their way to mastering their unit.

Sometimes my biggest problem is figuring out which xducer I've got pinging at any given time ...(I'm adding 2 more this season) ...

LOL, I sit here and laugh at myself all the time.. I have had my elite5 dsi for almost 2 years still trying to figure it out.. That is our mission this season stop fishing leave the poles at home and learn what we have and how to work it.. Our problem is we start fishing and having to much fun trying catch fish we lose track of time. GOOD LUCK TO ALL OUT THERE,HOPE YOU HAVE BETTER LUCK THEN WE ARE HAVING... We have fun even if we don't catch anything. Always a McDonalds on the trip home
