12 24 or 36volts is what the block says on it. Would it matter what battery to hook it to?

Yes. You must use the most negative point in the series of batteries.

So you think it would be better to come off of the block on the negative side and them to the crank negative?
So to be so much trouble.

I would guess it would be the negative associated with the 12v battery. I am not sure, so ask someone who would know for sure, then hook up a common ground and see if it reduces the noise.

There are a bunch of steps you can take. I have done everything from a- z and got mine useable. I grounded my trolling motor to the neg side of the starting battery.I unhooked my battery charger from the starting battery and it helped quite a bit. Added ferrite chokes on the transducer and that also helped. With doing all of that mine is still not cleared up all of the way. I did figure out that if I unhook my transducer from the trolling motor and move it away that is the only way mine totally clears up. So now its down to pretty much buying a new transducer. I have also read where guys are having problem with the older trolling motors and the SI. I have an older TM

Call the TM company and ask them. There is no one thing that fixes everybody's problem. Minn-Kota installed a internal ground on my saltwater riptide to fix that problem after I tried all the other above mentioned stuff. The same thing just fixed a friends of mine. Each boat is different. That's where I would start and don't let them tell you that they are not aware of this problem. You can also call Lowrance and see what they say, they are very helpful.

I unhooked the on board charger from crank battery and that took a lot of it out. Still have a little interference but can now see the screen.
