Default Updating Humminbird 859 and 899

I have registered both of my humminbirds(859 and 899), now curious how to update them, or should I even do so? I have not down loaded humminbird PC because I have a MACBOOK PRO. Do I have to find a windows operating system to download humminbird pc? And then how do I link my graphs to my computer? And when I get it linked, will it automatically undate? Thanx in advance for any help!

I learned something a few weeks back while visiting with a bass pro employee that works the fish finders. If you take your unit in to them they will do all updates for you in the store. He said they do it for all branded units they sell.

I bought a 899 about 2 months ago and I called HB to ask about updates. They had me give them the serial number and told me that it had or needed no upgrades. So I guess you can just call them with serial number, does that seem right????

Mine is pretty new, but I dont think that new. I think there is a "Jigging Mode" update for all units that end in a 9 if im not mistaken. Each time an improvement is made i think an upgrade can be made for you to have what everyone else has that has an 899 or 859. The serial just allows you to register your product. I think. Your graph may be new enuf to already have the "jigging mode" but I think I have to update mine beacuse I dont have it, but capable of having it.

It is my understanding the jigging mode doesn't apply to the 59's. It didn't appear in my update on 959.

Humminbird PC is windows only (unfortunately) ...and is only used for Nav data management ... (and personalizing the splash screen)...

You will have to either install parallels on your Mac to run Humminbird PC ... Or find another computer to install Humminbird PC ...
    ----------
    ----------
To check what software version is on your unit ...

    *Power on unit ...
*When the HB Logo appears ... Press the Menu button 1 time ...
*Choose "System Status" from the 3 choices in the popup window ...
*The screen that opens will have your unit model name, serial number, total hours, software version ... And some other info ...

Log into your HB account at http://www.humminbird.com/freshwater/home/

*Select the dashes in the top right of the screen ...
*Scroll down and select "MyHumminbird" ...
*On the page that opens ...select the underlined link for your unit model name ...
*On the next page that opens ... It will show the latest software version for your specific unit ...

*Scroll to the bottom of the version description and select "Download" ...
*Choose to "Save" the file to your computer (This works for Mac too because you are only transferring the file ... Not trying to open it) ...
*This file (.bin file) must be transferred to a formatted SD Card if you want to update the unit to this software version ...

    To update the unit ...:

    *Remove mapping cards ...
*Remove all cables except xducer and GPS antenna (if attached) ...
*Power on unit into "Normal" or "Forced Simulator" ...
*Restore Defaults ... Under the Setup tab ...
*Insert SD Card with version software ...
*Answer "Yes" to the green popup window ...
*Answer "No" to the next red popup window ...

DO NOT TOUCH THE UNIT DURING THE UPDATE PROCESS ...!!!

At the end of the update process ...the unit will reboot itself into "Normal" ...

When the popup shows that says "Update Successful" ... Remove SD Card ...

*Restore Defaults (under the Setup tab) ... Again ...

It isn't necessary to use Humminbird PC to update the units. Just need to get the .bin file on the SD card and the Mac should do that just fine.

Yes. Go to Humminbird and register your unit. It will then give you any updates available. Download them, put them on your second sim card, put in unit, power on, update. Simple.
