    Default hummingbird upgrade

i currently have a HB 597cihd bow mounted with a minkota maxxum 70lb with the variable speed. when I installed the motor (replacing 5-speed) I had a problem with rf interference. to make a long story short, I ended up replacing the brushes and installed the built in us2 transducer. i am now interested in installing something with a larger screen. I would like to stay under $500. I would like gps, color screen, and down imaging would be nice but not essential. My question is what is available at this time in a 7 inch or larger screen that will still work with the us2 transducer?

New Helix by Humminbird should fit the bill. Check out BBGMarine.

I was looking at that unit today, but it is not listed on the compatability chart for the us2 transducer. After all the problems I had, I am not willing to risk an external transducer.

In the morning call Brian and talk to him. Bet it is since they are made by same company. Brian can answer all your questions. It is probably not listed since it is so new.

To my knowledge the minnkota trolling motors with US2 are not compatible with down image units. I have a fortrex and my is not. As far as finding a NEW 7" unit for $500, good luck. Humminbird 7" units with DI start out around $635(859ci hd di). You may find something on craigslist.

Right now according to what he has it is just 2d. You are correct the US2 is only compatible with 2D. Yes you can get a Helix with GPS and DI in 5 in screen less than 500.00. The unit is wider and more viewable than the 5 and 6 series units.

Are you saying that the helix will work just not the down imaging? I could live with that but I also have a pm about the hb 998 that may fit what I want to do as well. I am still learning the whole di/si thing on my hb console unit and don't really appreciate it like I will in time.

They offer the Helix in a 2d only version that would work fine. Think it is only 199.00. Or the 2D with GPS which is what I would get for hooking straight to the the US2 on troller. Been thinking of doing that on my boat. I have a 998 and just barley understand the SI/DI. I have a stick steer with 998 mounted by my right knee. I run it off tar some and a old lowrance monochrome 2d on front hooked to my US2 on terrova. I can watch both at same time.

I have thought about that. I also am looking at a used 998ci from a member. My console unit is HB 898 si . The next question is if I can use an Ethernet connect between the two for my GPS. Also will the us2 work the 998 on 2d only and if so could I put a transducer inline switch and run di/si from a separate transducer on the back of the boat. Also is it possible to use the di/si picture from the 898 transducer I already have. Sorry for all the layers of questions but I am a bit of a techtard.

ps I will talk to Brian at bbg as I will need a mount for what ever I buy.
God bless Charlie Brewer and Bobby Garland.
