Brian will much better able to ansewer your questions, and explain how to hook it all up. And he can get you all the right parts to make it right the first time.

I have dealt with Brian in the past. He is as good as they come.

Ethernet can share GPS antennas, waypoints, temp sensors and sonar (from like technologies) ... Ethernet cables are listed as AS EC xW (where x is the cable length) http://www.humminbird.com/Freshwater...s/?facets=7319,

Also will the us2 work the 998 on 2d only
    Yes

and if so could I put a transducer inline switch and run di/si from a separate transducer on the back of the boat.
The HB TS3 switch could run the us2 2d sonar or another HB xducer separately ...
You could instead use the AS SIDB Y cable (instead of the HB TS3 switch) to use the us2 and another HB xducer at the same time

Also is it possible to use the di/si picture from the 898 transducer I already have.
The Ethernet will allow sonar sharing from the 898 and the 998
