Default Ok, no instructions on Nmea 2k kit

    So,
I got the Nmea 2000 kit lowrance.
No instructions, but I figured plug in the parts, how hard can it be, right.
Well folks, there is a power cord with it, how does that work? is it needed? Plugs into a T fitting?
The kit doesn't fit on my motor guide xi5.
Looks like I need an adapter to go from 5 pin to 6 pin, xi 5 to lowrance cable?
    Thanks

This diagram gives you an idea how a simple NMEA 2000 works. You can see the power node will connect to the battery and it's recommended you put a switch on the hot side so the network can be turned off.

On your MG Xi5 , there will be a NMEA gateway kit out shortly that will connect from your trolling motor to the NMEA backbone. Your HDS unit also connects to the same backbone as described in the diagram.

    Thanks Brian,
Can it be left connected while recharging a battery?

Not Brian, buy yes. Make sure you put a switch in the positive wire for the power node or the nmea network will be on all the time. I put a small led light on mine as a reminder to turn it off.

The ones I use come from Napa and fit in a 1/2" hole. They have a power wire and ground, just hook the power wire to the same side of the switch that the power node is on and hook up the ground. Every time you turn on the NMEA network the led will come on too.
