    Default Android apps?

New to the smart phone scene, just got a droid turbo. I ordered a lifeproof case. Downloaded navionics free boating app, haven't used it yet, is it worth having? Will it marks waypoints, like a garmin handheld? Or should I get a garmin?
I looked in the search feature, found a few, wanted to ask to see what other apps anyone would recommend?
being a smartphone newbie, tips are welcomed!

I guess we are sort of blessed in Missouri with our MDC. They not only put out brushpiles in many of our public lakes, but they make those coordinates available. They also have their own "app" for smart phones with all of those coordinates pre-loaded and free to anyone. I tried finding something similar for you at Illinois DNR, but couldn't find anything. From what I read about the Navionics app, there was no mention of saving waypoints. I'm sure it won't be long before something like that is available, tho

The Navionics App is great! It does waypoints and markers and shows you direction and speed you travel while on the water. I have not found any better apps than this one for the phone.

Kickingback; are you talking the free app or the paid app? What is the difference between the two?

It's the free "Navionics Boating USA" app. I have it for my IPhone. It works great in my opinion. I can mark spots from a map and use the GPS with the app and get to the point I marked. This saves me time from having to go to my sonar and putting in the coords. I just go to the spot using the navionics app and then I mark my sonar when I get to that spot.
I'm not sure about the paid app. I think it costs money because you get Canada also. Not sure.

While reading up on these apps, it appeared to me that there are different levels of use from android to iPhones. Routes and tracks would show on iPhone, but not on androids

I'm pretty sure you can do everything with the android app that you can do with the Iphone app............ If I remember correctly the big difference in the free and paid is the free does not have the navionics or sonar charts.......... just the gov. charts.
I have the paid version for Iphone... No doubt in my mind it's the best 10 bucks I ever spent..................

only problem I have is the mapping and gps eat my battery
Crappie bite twice a day. 15 minutes before I get there and 10 minutes after I leave.

Do you leave your phone on all the time? Set it to go to standby after a minute or two. That way when you aren't looking at it, it will power down and not use the battery. I only look at the app when i am navigating to a spot I have on the app then i turn it off till i need it or let the phone just power down. I can fish 24-48 hours with mine easily! (iphone 5s).
