I also want to say the ONIX 10 is a rocking unit. When I was using side imaging I was able to scan cedar trees to see if they had fish suspended in them, some trees had alot and some had none. I like to do alot of night fishing for crappie, it was nice to scan structure and then determine which ones to setup at night for fishing. The tree we ended up fishing next to produced 25# blucats, and crappie. Using the sonar on the Onix I was able to watch my bait depth on the unit to get it in the right zone of the suspended fish. Alot of the crappie were small but some were keepers. The bluecats range in lengths from 4" to 8" with some maybe hitting 10". The side imaging also allowed me to scan a wide area to search for fish, I was able to locate an area that contained alot of white bass feeding on shad, we were able to use this information to boat some nice white bass without disturbing the school.
I know the unit is a new generation for Humminbird and anytime you have a new generation of hardware it will have some issues, I can say even with the issues I have encountered I made the right decision purchasing the Onix 10, it already is a rocking unit but at it matures it will rock even more, this is one unit to take a close look at. It was really nice to have the larger screen than the screen on my 798CI HD SI unit (which is now at the front of the boat), I can see alot more detail.
Another nice feature of the Onix is the night mode for us night fisherman, you put it in night mode and it dims the screens and backlights the buttons and controls.
I have another fishing trip planned in a couple of weeks to another lake I had not fished in over 15 years, it will be nice to have some technology helping me out.
