I'll have return the units and go from there. Thanks for the help. Any other thoughts would be welcomed as well.
Even if it reads 12 volts, under a load it may be much less, these units are sensitive to power and will shut off if a sudden lost of power,a friend of mine knew when his starting battery was getting low because his unit would shut off when he would sometimes start big motor, and it was a 200 hp and still it would start

I added a picture to my previous post. Before you spend the money sending them in, check them on someone else's boat .... what does the voltage on the unit say before it powers off?
The Spec. page on my 998 states "Power Requirement" is 10V-20V. If this is true you have more than required. I do agree with BobB the voltage should be check at unit if possible.
Let me tell you what happened to me. My old HB started shutting down right after I turn it on, then it finally would not even come on. I checked the power at the units power plug and it had 12volts DC. So I sent it to HB. They sent it back to me (did not charge me for testing it, it may have been in warranty) and stated the unit was working fine.
The problem was I had a Very High Resistance connection in the power cable where it was sliced to the HB cable. You can have 12v but not the amps required to operate the units properly. Water had got to the butt slice and it corroded the connector (green gunk). If both units have the problem I would start where the power is common to both units and work out. Sometimes a fuse holder will get water and corrode, if they are not water tight. My Thought

I have 12 ga straight from my lowrance to the batterey through a good fuse holder and switch. Voltage shows same as battery at the plug. Voltage always shows in the 11's on the screen. Humminbird was similar. I would not go by what the units voltage says.
So they wanted 495 bucks to look at em??????? Is they crazy??????

Pretty hard for me to justify; especially if the problem isn't with the units. Anyway, they're sending them back to me n/c.
