Here's my issue. I have a HB 597ci hd. Purchased a couple years ago. It has been less than a trouble free unit to say the least. I just gave up on sending it in for repairs because after 4 trips I figured that's getting me no where. Anyway on the second trip in for repairs they updated the software and that just opened up a whole new can of worms. So how do I get it back to the original version? Some of you techy gewber's help me put here. Thanks superfly.

Officially it is not recommended that you install an older version of software as this can sometimes cause problems which will not be covered by the Humminbird warranty. However, I could send you the software if I need to but would need to know what version to send. You may have to send me the serial number and I could get the CRC folks to look up what it was originally built with.

Greg ,let me start by saying I love humminbird unit's. However in july of 2012 I believe I purchased a 597ci hd . for the 1st 6 months it worked great. Then the gps crashed so I sent it in and it was repaired. Then a couple months later the transducer crashed. It was on this repair that they updated the software. Now the split screen that shows gps and sonar won't load up without taking the card out and restarting then re inserting the card. Also it won't mark new way points since. I have sent it in 2 times for repair but all they said was gps cartography no fix. It was under warranty when the issues began so if there's no fix replace it. I finally just got disgusted with the whole thing and just gave up on it. I believe if it had the original software it would work as it did before the update. Thanks superfly.

Superfly, I can't believe HB has not been able to correct your problem. I have always had great success with HB customer service. Hope you get things figured out. I'm sure someone here or (HB) will help you with the installation of the software change.
All you have to do is save the file to your PC. I save all my updates to a file called HB 998 Software updates. Then, copy the file to an SD card that has been formatted. Then put the SD card in your HB unit and hit the start button. It will ask you if you want to load that version instead of the version that is already there, to which you respond "Yes". It will then ask you if you want to abort the update to which you will respond "No". The unit will then replace the version you have on the unit with the new version from the SD card. That's it. Be sure to restore defaults before the update AND after the update. You can then go ahead and re-do all your settings if you like them different than the default settings.
I would "Power Up Unit" and "Restore Defaults" FIRST then Shutdown. Then as BrownTrout stated install SD card in Unit and power up.
