Is your boat an Eagle 175 PF?
You need to explain how you are putting 2 batteries in series and using only 1 for power. How will this help? I can see putting them in parallel & doing this
Eagle 175 17.5 ft 40lb trolling motor.
Ok guys, the trolling motor is too small. Will be upgrading. I can go with a edge 55 but I know if I would go with a 24vdc unit it would be better. I have no room to put a third battery in the back and I really haven't looked at moving anything upfront because the only place would be in the rod box.
This is my question, I could series the batteries and then put the motor on one battery which would still be 12VDC. Electrically it will work. But I'm worried about draining the starter battery.
Has anybody done this. All thoughts appreciated.
Mike

You can do what your saying....run the TM off two batteries wired in series for 24 volt and hook your out board motor to one of them to crank it on 12 volts but.....you will not be draining your batteries equally. And if you pull crankbaits all day besides running your electronics , live well etc. off of the battery you have tapped for 12 volt.....you may not have enough left to crank your outboard. Best to have nothing hooked to the TM batteries except TM and a separate battery for starting your engine and running the other stuff in the boat.

This is possible, but why risk it? Doing this exposes all your 12v electronics (including engine ECMs) to a possible 24v over voltage.

We need a pic of the lay out of the rig. I have 4 large batts on board, one is under my console not due to room but more because of weight in the rear of the boat. Heck my 4 bank charger is dang near big as a batt but only weighs 30 instead of 90 pounds so it get to ride in the back. I built a deck extension in my rig and know a lot of others that have done this and used it for batt storage.

OK, I misunderstood. I thought you were putting the TM on 1 of the series batteries..

Thanks for all the replies. I have given thought to all that was mentioned. I'm going to study the setup and give some more thought. I may just have to go with 55lb thrust unit. If I come up with something I'll let the board know.
The whole problem is the 21 gallon gas tank. It takes up all of the space.
Thanks again
Mike
Put them in your rod locker and then get a rod transport rack from E-Z Placeholder over on the MS board. Problem solved. I had a G3 Eagle 185 and thats what I did. I have a SeaArk boat now and all my batteries fit in the back. Crowded but they fit and I am useing the big group 31's
