There is a downside to this. For one you will not have the ability to " pick apart" a brush pile from the bow where you are fishing. Another downfall will be delayed info if you spider rig. To me there is really no benefit. The sonar will come with the transducer when you buy it so why only install one?

As long as the units you select are ethernet capable, you can link them together with an ethernet cable which runs somewhere around $40. Once the two units are connected with this cable, you can select which transducer you want to use. For example, if you have a transducer on the bow trolling motor, you can select that transducer to be used by both units. The same with a transducer mounted in the bilge or somewhere off the transom. I have two HB 998s (bow and console) which are hooked together with this cable and it works great. I have two transducers (trolling motor and transom), each with their own water temp sensor. I can select which transducer to use on both units. Same with the water temps.

If you have Ethernet capable units, you could connect them with a Ethernet cable/connection and share transducers, way points, etc.

I believe this starts with 8XX units and higher.
