Default Humminbird 998c HD SI Combo or Lowrance HDS 7 touch or ??

I'm thinking about getting a new GPS Fishfinder. I currently have a Garmin 541S which I use mainly in saltwater. I'm wanting to use the new one in freshwater. I'm looking at spending between $1,000 and $1,300. I'm fairly new to freshwater fishing but need to learn. Planning on retiring on Toledo Bend in a few years. I'm hoping you freshwater experts can give me some help in selecting a new gps/fishfinder combo. Also, is the HB 998c HD SI being discontinued? If yes, does that matter? Thanks.

Yes Glen, The 998c HD SI is discontinued. Give me a call and we can discuss the options and see if I can get you in a unit to meet your needs.

HB provides software updates for Legacy units for many years after ceasing production of that model...

HB provides service for Legacy units for many more years than that...

Shut up and Fish, I'll give you a call soon and discuss options.

Rickie, thanks for the info on HB discontinued units.

Anyone, have any suggestions/opinions on these units or other units in my price range? Let me know if I haven't provided enough info. Thanks.

Just bought a Lowrance HDS 7 Touch with Structure scan transducer. 1259 then you get a $200 rebate on it. Going to start mounting it to the boat tomorrow.

Just bought 2 998 HD units this year. More info on them than I can handle. Great units!

I have two HB 998s (bow and console) on my boat. Connected with ethernet. Love them!

    Several reasons.
I have a Humminbird 587 di on the console currently. It is going to the trolling motor.

I don't like having to cycle through the entire menu to get what I want. You can set up a touch with the info you want on your screen. Another reason is Hummingbird isn't compatible with and lake map that has the lake I fish the most while Insight USA has it. I can also use insight genesis to map the lake out better. Also the rebate. The wife was pissed I was spending that much on a graph. Being able to use the rebate and keep it right around $1k was a big deal for me.

I tried both. Ultimately I chose the 7 because of vastly better downscan. But could be user errors.
All I know is one was easy to use, one impossible on down image.
    998 better SI
