Make sure you get the new 3.0 version software update, it really helps the unit perform!
Went fishing Tuesday. Water temperature was from 48 to about 50.5 degrees. I am determined to learn to NOT use fish icons.; I am having to relearn and rethink everything I have strore up in the last several years. My DI shows a narrow bottom, and the pictures are not like the ones Lowrance shows. The bottom is soft in the lake I fish and the bottom is shown narrow. The bottom on the 2D is also shown as narrow. I also realized that the DI is almost non existant unless their is some movement of the boat.It does track the bottom and clearifies the 2D pictures. I feel the settings are pretty close and just because I didn't detect any fish, this probably was a lack of experience. I read everything I can about this unit , so everybody keep posting,,,,,,,Thanks........crappie1133

It improves the refresh rate from 20 seconds to about 3-4 seconds when using Navionics Hotmaps when zooming in and out, which has been the main complaint with the Elite 7 HDI. This makes it tolerable and worth using. I would not think you would loose your settings when updating.
I think you have to save your waypoints on an SD before you do the update. I was under the impression the update over writes any stored data and you need the backup to reload them. Have not tried it so does anyone know if this is necessary??
Mark 1:17 ...I will make you fishers of men
I updated my Elite 7 the other day and I did not lose my waypoints. If I had several on there that I was worried about I would save them just as a backup.
I downloaded the "update file" from the manufacturer website but dont know how to transfer it to the unit as i dont see ny plugs. Did you save the file to a micro sd card and then insert?
For Di info to be good the boat needs steady forward speed.
