It seems the ION and ONIX use digital processing...whereas, all the other series units use analog processing...(in some form)..

My guess is that the ION and ONIX can read the HDSI xducer analog data...but...but...but...

The current analog units (xx99 and older) cannot read the digital data of the new "All in One" xducer...

This means I cannot simply buy the new "All in One" xducer and my 1197 use it...(darn it lol)...

But I could buy an ONIX and my current HDSI xducer will work with the ONIX...

Looks to me like that would be going backwards.

Thanks for your posts. I enjoy your input.

I agree that seems backwards ...in the respect that "why would anyone want to use an old HDSI xducer on a brand new technology ION or ONIX platform...??"

But ...it opens possibilities in my personal experiments...(such as..if the ONIX will read my analog HDSI, then the ONIX may also read my XTM 9 WIDE DI 20 T and/or read my LSS 2 also...)

More info posted by Doug V..

    QUOTE:

I was told that the ONIX and ION will be Humminbird PC Compatible and can use GPS Data. So you can save the waypoints to SD Card and import into the Onix and Ion.

I think I read somewhere where Jason Halfen said there was a dedicated DI as well, but when you look at the specs, they sure seem to imply use of the same crystals.

Also, if it can use either transducer, that would imply the same pin outs. Are there any spare pins on the current connector?

of course, they could plan to sell a pig tail to adapt the current transducer to the new unit but I just don't see a big market for that.

You might be right but I'd of thought that the digitizing of the signals would occur in the control head.

I agree...I just don't see how a piezo can be "digital"...

Also I think the new series ION and ONIX have different (and better) cable connectors...which would explain why an adapter cable is necessary for hookin up an HDSI to the ONIX...

The information I have is that the new transducers will feature a dedicated DI element.
