*455kHz if you want to see (and mark with waypoint) targets all the way to the edge of the display...or if you want to see suspended fish out to the sides over the bottom ...(overall image will be fuzzier)

*800kHz to see more detail of targets closer to the boat ...(overall image will be crisper but darker out to the sides of the display)...

*SI Range to 50-70ft left and right...(farther when looking for new structure using 455kHz - lesser when looking for detail closer to the boat with 800kHz)...

*Chart speed to match boat speed....

*Palette color is variable depending on the lighting conditions for the day...(freeze the screen with the 4way cursor and cycle thru the colors to see which is better for that specific time of day)...

*SI Enhance overlayed on the SI image to allow instant access to the most used SI settings...

*SI Sensitivity up or down depending on the brightness of the image - sensitivity up brightens...sensitivity down darkens the image...(change this sensitivity setting often to compensate for harder/softer bottom and deeper/shallower water)...

    *SI Contrast 10-12...

*SI Sharpness Off ...(unless looking specifically for fish - higher sharpness will make fish stand out against bottom Pallete color...but will also make image grainy looking)...

Thanks for coming to the rescue again Rickie . I play around with different settings a lot and try and match boat speed setting , keep my Sensitivity up enough to to keep my screen clean .but ive been messing with my sharpness and never tried the 800khz, I'll keep playing when I get some good pix i'll start posting . Thanks again

    Here's a comparison shot I captured using the 455kHz vs the 800kHz...

The 455 is brighter overall ...but fuzzier...even out to the edge of the display...
The 800 is crisper in detail...but darker out to the sides of the display...

Frequency choice should be used as tools for certain tasks...(like I mentioned before)...

The 455 will allow seeing "Points Of Interest" all the way to the the edge of the display..(but the fuzziness quality of the image may make it hard to determine what the "POI" actually is)...so drop a waypoint on it....

Then reposition the boat to pass by the new "Point Of Interest" using the 800 to determine in detail if the "POI" is worth keeping in your custom waypoint library...

ok,ill tell you how i run my unit but its going to be contrary to others..i almost never run scroll speed the same as boat speed and i don't recommend using the 800 on Di very much.i run scroll speed from the default setting of 5 on up to 8. 455 works best but the 800 will be sharper.i almost never turn the sharpness but the sharpness will make fish standout.boat speed verys but to me it doent seem to madder a whole lot because Im sure that my onboard proberlly ides around 3mph and when i use the trolling motor usually under 2mph and i don't change the settings.now i guess I've got you confused but that how i run my two units.ones the hd the other is non hd there's no difference other than the hd is a little brighter.if your going to use the Di try the 455 i think you'll like the results better than the 800

i wonder why?its not just you, i here this lot and i find this odd.i have two 998s and i have very good luck with them.are you not seeing structure on both the 2d and Di?have you tried both 800 and 455.i understand that a dedicated Di crystal is better.i rotated my si transducer and i did get very good results on 800 but even with it parrell i feel good about the results on 455.this is picture using rotated transducer on 800.how do you think the detail compairs to what you have exsperienced with the touch so far?
