If it is crimped properly it doesn't need to be soldered. (But I always do it anyway)

I'm from the old school that says wire should always be crimped and soldered then shrink wrapped , maybe # 6 is to big to be soldered ???

When I make my own cables I put heat shrink tubing on the cable. Then I put the cable end in a vice pointing straight up. Using a propane torch, I heat the connector ant tin the inside. Then I fill the connector about half full of solder. Warm the cable as much as I can without melting the covering while keeping the solder in the connector melted. Then insert the cable into the connector and hold it until the solder cools. Once it cools, clean up the excess. Now you can crimp it you want. Then slide the shrink tubing over the end of the connector and heat. VIOLA! One end done. For best results, use rosin core solder.
