Default Humminbird 598C HD SI Sonar/GPS Combo

Good Afternoon, I was just looking at Cabelas site and saw they are now preordering for the Humminbird 598C HD SI Sonar/GPS Combo. Has anyone heard much on this unit? I just purchased the 798 HD SI unit and was wondering what the difference in the two were? This is the first time I have heard of it and thought it might have been a typo on the site as it looks just like a 798. I knew it must be legit when they said it wouldn't be ready till October or so. Just curious to see if anyone had any info on this unit.

    Thanks

That's prolly one HB built and numbered just for Cabela's.

I guess they are trying to make SI more affordable for folks.. But if you shop around, you can buy a new 798SI HD for less than Cabelas is offering the 598SI for. One of the bigger differences between the 500 and 700 series is a single SD card slot and the ability to link units up.

I believe there was an iCast video around somewhere that the HB spokesman said it had the same critical features but a couple less bells and whistles for the guys who don't really need them.

I can’t find the link to that video at the moment but you are correct.
Basically it is a 798ci HD Si unit minus the second memory card slot, the preset View buttons and no Ethernet connection. Otherwise it should have the same display and sonar capabilities.

It's got the 5" screen vs the smaller screen some 500 series have, which is good, but it will be tuff to see much detail in the SI mode due to the 5" screen. To see SI detail, the bigger the screen the better.
    GO BIG ORANGE !

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.

HB 798's have 3 preset views with cursor zoom. 2 of our presets are left and right SI, when something of interest shows up we use the cursor to see what's there. I can't argue any points above but we STOLE our unit from Cabelas. It was in the bargain room as a return and we asked for a best offer, at the time it saved us almost $300 and we had an entry level SI unit/GPS. No regrets, just have to punch a couple more buttons.

Couldn't find any info on it at the HB site but I did notice this in the cabelas ad:

A bonded-glass screen provides superior clarity for the high-definition display, making it sunlight readable.

Yup. Like I said: same display as us used in the 798ci HD Si units.
