I have transported several people to their boats when they drifted away. Not sure what they were planning but whatever, it didn't work. A couple were pro's fishing tournaments here on table rock.
I have been the proud owner of one from day one. trust me on this . Your boat wont be there when you get back. Learn to swim .

I launch and recover my boat every weekend with no problems. I just unload the boat direct it towards the dock and spot lock it in the open water. When I get to the dock I drive it over. The spot lock will not disengage if you go out of range. It will just hold that position until a new remote command is issued. When I go to load I do the same in reverse. Just stand on the back of the trailer and drive the boat to me. If you do decide to give it a try make sure to set the motor up high so that you will have a good bit of leverage to pull it out the water and lock it in place.
Left the boat drifted up against flooded timber in the duck woods. When I got ready to quit. Used the remote to drive the boat up to the hole.
Naw... too much risk of something bad happening here... too many $$$'s invested... I'm thinking liability issues. Other boaters at the dock can just wait on me. Besides I'm usually the quickest in and out anyhow. Now if the motor could be deployed/stowed remotely what a lifesaver that could be if you fell overboard... MinnKota should be working on that one.
