Just remember for the side scan to work properly it cant have anything blocking the transducer on either side. The bottom of the new transducer must be below the old one.
I will get my new HB 898 Si comb very soon. I would like to know if I have to move my Eagle 480/GPS tranducer or can I mount my new transducer beside to old transducer. All of the help I can get from all of you guys will be grant help.

Any time 2 separate sonar beams are overlapping, there is a potential for "crosstalk" sonar to sonar interference...
Mounting the 2 xducers close together creates this potential..
That is not to say that there will definately be interference...but a possibility...
Sometimes sonar to sonar interference can be filtered out with unit settings...sometimes not...
If the plan is to only use 1 unit at a time ...there would no sonar to sonar interference possibility..
I still have my 480 close to my 1197SI (but I only keep it there in case the 1197 decides to die)...

I have an 898 and a lowrance 520 on my boat and I use the 520 for the map and the 898 for the sonar. I cannot run both the lowrance and the humminbird on sonar at the same time. The signals get all messed up. I have the lowrance transducer on one side of boat and humminbird on the other. I unhook the sonar cable to the lowrance so I can still use the map and have the full screen on the humminbird for the sonar. Good luck, you will like the 898.
RUST NEVER SLEEPS
thanks for all of our help. I guess I will move the 480 transducer to my trolling motorand maybe there will be no trouble.
It is possible to turn off the sonar in the 798 (to prevent sonar to sonar interference) and still use the maps and Gps...
This scenario would allow the use of the 480 sonar and 798 maps...
Or...
It would not hurt anything to try the 2 xducers in the setup mentioned in your OP..you may get lucky and not even experience interference...

Thanks for all you guys for the suggestion but I just installed the new 898 SI and moved the Eagle transducer. I Will not get to put the boat in the water until tomorrow and play with the 898. I sure thank every one and I am sure I will have many more questions.
Get an SD card and capture some snapshots from the unit...
We like snapshots...
