    Default HB-596 HDDI Questions

I purchased this unit when they first came out last spring and I have yet been able to see any structure or ANYTHING using the DI function. Anybody have any ideas what may be the problem? Thanks..

How deep are you fishing in? What frequency are you using?

Yes I am seeing structure on 2-D. As far as how deep/frequency, I'm in anywhere from 3-30 FOW and I have used both 455 khz and 800 khz.

    Kent,
Do you know anyone else with a Humminbird DI unit that would allow you to test your unit on their boat?

Unfortunately I don't know anybody else with an HB unit to test this on. I reset the unit to factory settings this weekend and now what I am seeing on the DI panel matches what I see on the 2D. I am not getting the pretty pictures that are advertised with this unit. I have never seen a post on any of the boards from anybody that has a HB-596DI, I am wondering if I am the only person in the whole world that bought this unit or does anybody else have this?

Here's a good thread discussing the 597 (which is basically the same unit as the 596 except with added GPS)...

I have this exact same unit and unfortunately this weekend I experienced the same thing. When I do the split view, the 2D sonar works perferct, but the DI will sometimes disappear or just show a flat bottom and is very hard to see. I have not done a reset on it but will when I get home. Did this fix your issue or is it still happening? I went looking for a software update which I found but cannot find a place to buy the PC cable. I purchased mine in June 11' and the software is dated Sept 11'. Where are you located? I'm in Columbia, MO. I'll probably be on the phone with Humminbird soon in regard to the problem. Also, where do you have your transducer mounted?

    TypeO,
I'm in Springfield OH. Reseting to factory defaults has at least let me see some things in the DI. I just don't get the pretty pictures that everybody else shows. Also, my transducer is located on the transom. If you call HB about this, let me know what they say. Thanks...

If you have the 597c DI unit you do not have to have the pc cable. You can update the unit software via a SD card and Card Reader. You can download the software update for the unit to an SD card and then place the SD card in the unit and the unit will read the update.

You would need to follow the on screen prompt regarding replacing the current software in the unit (Yes, right cursor) Then you get asked do you want to abort the update (No, Left Cursor) and then the update would progress.

    Thank you,
    Deborah @ Humminbird
