Ahhh Ha !! So that's how it's set up to work. Thanks for that little tidbit !!

I don't remember hearing any "click", but I did have to push the waterproof flap down some, to get it flush with the face of the unit ... so I may not have seated the card in as far as it can go, before closing the flap.

I may have to try the push in - push out method, just to see how much "ummph" the spring has, so I'll know before trying it on the water. Thanks again for the warning.

Now that that little feat is done, I'll have to figure out how to go about getting a screen shot onto the card ...
crappiepappy, on page 32 of the manual link you posted, it says to press power and then zoom (+) for a screen capture to your card. So I guess if I wanted a screen shot with my map included, I wouldn't be able to do that?

With only one card slot, I wouldn't think so, since you cannot write to your map card. I would think that if you pulled the map card out, to put the blank card in, your unit would default to the internal base map image. The unit does not update the base map with info from the map card, it just uses the map card info to overlay the screen ... so once you remove the map card, the unit no longer has that info to overlay, and would revert to reading the base map info.

... I just looked at pg32 of my printed copy of the manual, and what do I find but a direct answer to your question ... RIGHT UNDERNEATH the power/zoom screenshot statement which very plainly says : NOTE: You cannot save screenshots to a Navionics card

I guess maybe I need to study this manual a little more thoroughly, and highlight some of the more important operational aspects.

I read that as well. Just thought I'd ask just in case . Thanks for posting the link to the manual, it appears I had to read it twice before it sunk in.

Is there still an Emulator program for the Elite 5 DSI? I don't see any on the Lowarence site or on any of my searchs.

Tim ... there used to be one, but it was a composite of all the Elite series unit's capabilities ... which could cause some problems when you tried to access a function you saw on the emulator, that wasn't actually on "your" unit's program.

I don't think it's operational, now ... as I cannot find any link to it. I deleted mine, some time ago, after figuring out that it contained menu items that were not on my unit. I have a extra power/tdx cord & jumper battery ... so I can run the unit while it's at home & not on the boat. And, no ... I'm not suggesting anyone go buy an extra one I'm just saying that's how I can "play" with my unit, even though it isn't on the boat.

I'm thinking that Lowrance is concentrating more on the HDS units/technology. I can't even get on the Lowrance website, as it currently has a server error

I did find this : Product Emulators ... but the Elite 5 DSI unit is not on this list .... just the Elite 5 & Elite 5x

I have seen a couple of the Lowrance DI units. I am speaking of DI only. If this is the only set you have, I think you surely are missing a lot. If given a choice I had much rather have a good 2D unit than a DI only unit.

I have 2 different numbers listed online for the number od waypoints for the Elite-5 DSI 1,000 and also 3,000. 1,000 is plenty but which is the correct number. I had 95 waypoints in a Garmin hand held GPS and I am in the process of adding these waypoints to my Elite -5 DSI. I have 123 waypoints in this unit now and will be adding a lot more in the future. I keep the waypoints also in a composition book with good descriptions of each waypoint. But the more I mess with waypoints I find that it is difficult sometimes finding the waypoints in my book. Simply because of the numbering system. I believe I will be breaking Watts Bar Lake into sections and and use a numbering system like this; section 1 use waypoint numbers starting at 100 section 2 use waypoint numbers starting at 200 sect 3 300 sect 4 400 and so on. then I can rename the existing waypoints accordingly, and redo my book to match the new numbers, a little work but no problem I am retired. The more I use the Elite-5 DSI the more I like it. I do not get lost in the menus near as much as I did when I first started to use it. Another thing I realized was the descriptions of what is at the waypoint does not make it easier to find in the book. how many ways can you describe brush in 25 feet of water.
