Man, am I glad that I checked this thread for the first time in months. I've been watching the prices for these all over ever since I missed out on last year's big Lowrance rebate on them. I just pulled the trigger on one at Gander thanks to the heads up in this thread. It gave me something to use those GM gift cards on that I received for Christmas, too. Thanks, guys!

I bought a Ram mount for one on ebay at the first of last summer to tell you how long I've been watching them. I'm planning on getting another transducer so that I can swap it between the console and the trolling motor when needed.

It may be in this thread somewhere, but what are the current good map cards for them, KY Lake in particular?

IMHO, the Elite's refresh rate is kinda slow with just the Basemap that came on the unit. I added my Nav Premium South and it slowed it down even more. Unless current updates have addressed this, I'll just stick with the basemap. I have an HDS8 on my console and keep my Nav card in it anyway. Just my 2 cents.

Are you talking about the refresh rate just at drifting/trolling speed or at engine speed? Most all standard use GPS units have issues with updating postion at slow speeds.

Worse at idle speeds but still kinda slow even running down the lake. That's been my experience anyway.

I have the Navionics premium south in mine with no problems. I like the 1 foot contours.

I love it too. It just seemed to lag behind in both my Elite5's (maybe I was going too slow) so I just keep it in my HDS8. I'm usually behind the wheel when traveling to a waypoint anyway, then I zero in from the TM.

Does anybody know if their map has 1' contours for Kentucky Lake?

So if you get the premium hotmaps card, you get online updates... correct?

Got to use my unit for the first time a few days ago and have a question...

When I powered it up the satellites locked in like they should, but when I pulled the map up on the screen the map was showing the area where I live. I had to scroll down thru the map 40 miles to my actual position and then I was able to see the "arrow" (my boat) position on the lake.

Is this normal?? Or should the map automatically pop up at my current location? Every other gps I've ever used took me to my current location on the map.

    Here is the Navionics website:

Navionics - We start where the road ends | Navionics

Click on the map on the first page and scroll around as well as zoom with the mouse scroll wheel to the area you are interested in. If the the 1' contours are there, they will have them. Yes you do get online updates quite often. There is a really cool feature where local folks put their waypoints in as well for certain features, so it's a good idea to update often. What's also nice is when you get the card and update for the first time, it will download a version on your computer. That way you can look around and put your waypoints in, routes, etc. Then just download onto a 2 GB card and into the unit.

It looks like KY Lake only has 3' contours. Bummer.
