    Default HB Side Imaging vs HDS Structure Scan...


    A while back when I was researching HB SI and HDS SS... I ran across these images. It is a pretty good comparison in the images. I don't believe there is THAT much difference in the two if you know how to use it and set it up correctly. You have to get the settings right on both units for it to work right. Okay you HDS guys.. Post up some images for comparison. I have about 800 HB side image snapshots I can post but I have seen very little real world HDS screen shots. Lets see em.. Not sure why yall are holding on to them.

    I am convinced from my research that HDS beats HB in the DI category and might have a slight edge on the side imaging but that has yet to be proven to me since real world images are scarce to say the least. I don't want to make this a talking debate.. Post up your pictures for PROOF and let them do the talking... Okay lets get started.... These are the ones I found online...

    These seem very comparable... The next group of pictures look bias to me





    These pictures seem bias. They chose to show the 800khz HB DI. The 800 khz DI on the HB is not great.. The 455 khz DI is much better. Take a look. You notice they pick the worse HB DI to compare to the Lowrance HDS.

    As I was looking at both Hummingbird and Lowrance models this weekend due to the fact all my electronics are fried, I was able to get reps to discus both and the capabilities of both. Since both have SI, I didn’t see a difference in the quality other than slight clarity on the Lowrance models.

    However for what I want to do it is cheaper to go HB and get a 788 and match it with another cheaper HB that can connect via Interlink system. This gives me GPS and Waypoints matched on both, without breaking the bank. This set up also gives you SI, and DI capabilities. With DI you can build that picture of a specific piece of structure as you criss cross over it a few times and then SI to find those brush piles without driving directly over them.

    I have always been a Lowrance guy and I do like the HDS systems they have, just don’t want to spend that kind of money when I can get what I want for a lot less, same goes for HB high ends as well. Bells and whistles are nice but I just want to catch more fish and don’t need the extras with the additional cost that comes with them.

    If you learn your electronics no matter what brand it is you will be successful. Period.

    But that is just my opinion, and I am no pro.

    One always should remember in comparing HDS DI images to HB DI images(in the HB SI MODELS) that the HDS DI images come from dedicated DI crystals....conversely the HB DI images ( in the HB SI models) are processor generated images from the SI crystals...

    So, in a nutshell, the HDS DI images and the HB DI images (in the HB SI models) should not be compared in head to head competition...

    HDS DI images should only be compared to the HB DI units that have dedicated crystals for rendering the DI information....

    On the other hand.... HDS SI images vs HB SI images would definitely be interesting....

    I have Low but I think the birds are nice too. Just buy the one(s) you want and go fishing.
