I would like to wire in a dimmer switch on my floating white light to help keep the shad I get under light night fishing in a tighter pattern....
Anyone know where I can get a dimmer sitch that I could wire into a 12 volt circuit ...

Check the voltage requirement for your lights. They may not perform well, and maybe not at all, it you drop the voltage/amperage. Just saying.
I use a Q Beam 1 million CP spotlight with a styrofoam ring glued to it....
It shoots a very concentrated beam..
I can see China down there.....

Its my experience that the shad will be in a greater area the more area you light up ,for example if u use a green light ( tube ) in a clear lake it will bring the shad to a huge area around the boat therefore the shad will be more spread out and harder to hook and use for bait. If you use a white light it will concentrate them somewhat closer to the area . so using a dimmer switch and cutting some of the light may bring the shad even closer to the light.I want to use the dimmer only after I have brought the shad to the area once they get there they tend to pattern around the light and swim in a circular motion. If you have alot of light the pattern is pretty big...so maybe cutting the light will bring them closer just an idea...
Have you tried cutting the light before...you sound like you are well versed in the area...
i believe a rheostat is a rheostat in low voltages/and amp draws.....i would try one from lowes or some hardware store. or hit the radio shack store for one in 12 volts.......just a thought.....
if you want a dimmer light draw them with the bright light the get a clamp on 12v light with a 25 or 50 w light bulb that fix you right up
How about salvaging a variable speed control from a junk TM? It's designed for low voltage and high draws.
