No problem blueball, you seem like a good fellow, but must admit, I was hoping to make you feel a little sorry for selling your HB stuff.

Right now, I keep thinking about the magical 0.6 mph ( 0.9 foot per second ) and the generally stated error of GPS' being off by 20-30 feet. Even Garmin says they are only accurate to within 15 meters. (Garmin | What is GPS?)

So, is HB trying to be honest that they dont know and others are just guessin based on past travel?

Once again it is important to realize that the competition IS most likely using guesses (algorithyms) to accomplish slow directional tracking....
    The Cumulative Displacement Filter

Algorithyms are proven to be accurate enough to be a viable option for GPS tracking at slow speeds....

I don't think HB would ever say they don't know how to use an algorithym....

blueball, maybe you could ask Doug to clarify his statement as you are a member of that forum where he made that statement..

It's a simple matter of adding an electronic compass. Without a compass the unit doesn't know which way it's pointed unless traveling at a high enough speed to overcome the position error. My handheld Garmin has an electronic compass and it takes over the heading duties below 5 mph.

maybe we should all email humminbird and tell them their main guy is saying the donut is fixed and send them a link to the thread, maybe they will get them to act like grown ups when it comes to a depth finder instead of trying any tactic to sell theirs.you notice u dont see jason gilstap acting like that all over the internat just to sell lowrance products ,thats another thing lowrance has going for them at the moment

Here is whats posted on the sideimaging web site.
It looks like it fixes the donut on the newer units, not the 997.

I think we should give Doug a chance to clarify before anyone contacts HB about their representative.

There's bound to more to the story...
