Default "Project HB Donut" is alive and well

Firstoff, I want to thank Bill for doing his job here at CC..

We all know Ed's rules...NO personal attacks...NO exceptions...

I think this would be a good time for all of us to step back and see where "Project HB Donut" is and where it may be headed in the future....

To reflect back on the original intention of why I started "Project HB Donut" would be a good place to start and evaluate...

From the very onset...the purpose of "Project HB Donut" has been very clear....

    1. To identify and explore the facts surrounding the "HB Donut"
    2. To open a venue of discussion for people who are affected by the HB Donut and how it affects their fishing tactics or their decision on what brand to buy...

I think we can all agree that "point 1" (above) has been brought into the forefront where the facts are not only seen and documented...but made indisputable...

"Point 2" (above) is still alive (even with the closure of the original "Project HB Donut" thread)....and the discussion of the issue will stay alive until HB finally completes this "wish list" item...(even upon completion this may be talked about for time to come)...

So where does the "venue of discussion" (noted in point 2 above) go from here...??

First we must ask Bill (or any mod)...what are the site rules for opening another discussion on the same topic..??

"Sticky"..?? .....I don't know if "Project HB Donut" even qualifies as what we at CC would even want as a sticky....

Referring to or discussing the "Donut" or "Project HB Donut" will continue whether or not it is actually in a thread of it's own title...

So... I ask you (the 17,000+ views and 499 posts) of "Project HB Donut"....where would you want to see the "venue of discussion" of "Project HB Donut" lead...??

Are there still more of you that haven't had the chance to speak that want to have the opportunity..??

Now would be a grand opportunity for "the unheard" to speak up...

There is absolutely no problem with reopening this subject. Just keep personal attacks out of it.

Personally, I would love to see the original thread "stickied". Even better, I would really like to see it edited down to the relevant posts and stickied. Whether it remains locked or not is immaterial as long as the important information within the thread is readily available to the members of the forum at the top of this page, particularly those who are debating pros/cons of which SI unit to purchase. There is a lot of OT garbage in that thread but there are also many very good points made within it. I would hate to see the discussion end because a few people don't know how to act. I also don't like the odds of getting this fixed if the thread disappears, I know that HB is very aware of the impact it is having on their business now, but I think persistence (ie: a living thread and continued CS calls) will win the day on actually having them prioritize fixing it for us.

I agree it still needs to be looked at. Wish we could get the official position from Humminbird about if it can and cannot be fixed. I crappie fish and don't care for the donut. There are lots of things you can download from their website. This will be a valuable add on.

If they can't, just let us know but they need to understand they are going to lose a lot of potential customers to their competition. Lowrance's downimaging is much clearer than what they have, this might be something they could look into too.
I love my Humminbird. These changes would make it better, hands down.

Please let the donut disscusion live on. There will always be those folks who want to bash and argue instead of share the info they may have. Give it thirty days to clean it's self up and still give the thread a little more exsposure. Shoot even the bad comments back and forth has to make the leaders at HB or even Low a little nervous. I'm sure they want it to stop. Oh, Cane Pole, I was fishing the other day and happened to notice that I had slowed into the DONUT ZONE and it made me laugh. I first thought of all the good people here that had to deal with this and then I thought, heck they brought a smile to my face at 43 degress and a nw wind of 10mph and no fish. What great people. Thanks to you and Crappie.Com for letting us roll on.

I was looking at the FAQs for the latest software releases for the 997 (5.450) and 858 (5.410) and saw entries related to fixing issues with navigation at slow speeds. Has anyone tried the latest software releases to see if they help with the doughnut? I'm still using 4.995 Beta on both of my units to make sure the Interlink continues to work.
